Our client is a privately held legal services company whose objective is to provide Fortune 1000 and other growth companies with an opportunity to reduce their dependence on outside counsel by offering lawyers to companies on an as-needed basis. By borrowing much of its business model from the consulting industry, the firm provides companies with lawyers when they need them and on a project-by-project basis. The client is seeking to expand its New York City office by adding a Practice Leader for Life Sciences, which would require domain expertise, both legal and life sciences. The ideal individual would possess a JD, and in terms of professional experience, this individual will ideally have spent some time in a law firm before transitioning over to a life sciences company.

Chief Executive Officer
Cancer Diagnostics


Our client is a startup company in the area of cancer diagnostics. The company is developing a proprietary biomarker portfolio and proteomics technology to provide accurate, patient-friendly cancer diagnostics. The firm possesses deep in-house expertise in the areas of proteomics, diagnostics, urine tests, cancer biology, and tumor biomarkers. Our client is currently seeking a Chief Executive Officer who will report to the Board of Directors. This individual will serve as an organizational architect and business strategist for the enterprise and will have full, strategic and operational responsibility for the start up and development of the company. This individual will be responsible for building the organization to perform necessary research, development and clinical trials. The appropriate candidate must possess a minimum of ten years of relevant experience, at least half of which should have come within a successful P&L management context. Documented success in aggressively growing a revenue stream, introducing a novel technology intensive product to market, closing business development deals of consequence, recruiting senior executives and raising money constitute highly appealing background elements. Furthermore, the ideal individual has a science degree, preferably in a technical subject such as biology, chemical engineering, or physics. Graduate degrees in science, engineering, business, medicine or law constitute significant appealing additional credentials for the breadth of knowledge and index of high achievement they imply.

Venture Capital


Our client is a Bay-area venture capital firm with an investment focus on technology businesses in the Healthcare sector, specifically pharmaceuticals and medical devices. The firm has a stage-agnostic but value sensitive approach and highly values its role in both oversight and partnership with management groups. The firm is seeking a Principal to help enhance the venture investing process, enrich the possibilities in the firm culture and extend its functional capabilities and contact base in Healthcare sector. The ideal candidate will possess significant investing or commercial/consulting experience, particularly within the Healthcare industry. The successful individual will have a strong education to parallel this experience, particularly a PhD, MD and/or MBA.

Chief Commercial Officer
Cancer/Infectious Disease


Our client is a privately held biopharmaceutical company focused on cancer and infectious diseases. The company specializes in developing and systematically generating new uses for clinical-stage drugs licensed from major pharmaceutical companies. This Chief Commercial Officer, which constitutes a new position in the organization, has a charter to develop and implement a commercial plan to position the company in the market. In terms of the professional background, the expectation is for demonstrated capability in Sales and Marketing functions, with successful experience in launching new products and managing them once in the market. The person will also play a part in business development. Exposure to Oncology and possibly Infectious Disease is strongly preferred.

Chief Medical Officer
Oncology/Inflammation


Our client, which is a publicly held biopharmaceutical company in the Pacific Northwest, focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of therapeutic proteins and is seeking to recruit a Chief Medical Officer. The company, whose primary focus is oncology and inflammation, has a product which is expected to enter Phase III trials next year. In terms of professional background, this individual should possess a minimum of 15 years of experience in Clinical Development/Medical Affairs. Candidates must have an M.D. and specific experience in leading the successful completion of at least one Phase III trial and have submitted either an NDA or preferably a BLA and defended it in front of the FDA.

Chief Executive Officer

Our client is a private Medical Device company in the process of developing new endoscopic technologies. They are seeking to recruit a Chief Executive Officer in order to properly move to the next stage in their commercial evolution. The ideal candidate must be adept in both an operating as well as a conceptual mode and demonstrate the ability to simultaneously execute at a tactical level, provide longer-term direction for the organization, and effectively function as the lead corporate spokesperson. At a professional level, the appropriate candidate must possess a minimum of 15 years experience. At least half of this experience should have come within a managerial context and the bulk of it preferably from the Medical Device market. From an educational perspective, we are seeking a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. A graduate degree in science, medicine or business constitutes significant credentials for the knowledge it provides as well as the index of high achievement it offers. Finally, however, such credentials are not considered requisite for success in the role. Personal qualities, character elements and demonstrated previous accomplishment as a business leader will hold much more weight in the selection process.

Metabolic Disorders


Our client is a product-driven Oncology-focused biopharmaceutical company that licenses, develops and commercializes both therapeutic and molecular imaging/diagnostic products. This Princeton, New Jersey based company is publicly held. At this time, they are seeking to recruit a Board Member who is scientifically, commercially, or financially oriented in order to add broad and diverse industry experience as well as strategic insight and extensive industry contacts to their current decision-making team. A financially-oriented individual should possess an MBA in Finance and or a CPA, and have strong financial management experience with exposure to the Capital Markets. A commercially-oriented candidate should have General Management experience in the Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology industry, and show documented success in presiding over the development of novel drugs or diagnostics. They must also have a demonstrated strength in Marketing, Distribution and Business Development, and exhibit a substantial familiarity with the R&D function. A scientifically-oriented individual will need senior management experience in either the Research, Pre-Clinical, Clinical or Development functions of major Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical companies, and should possess an MD and/or a Ph.D. Regardless of orientation, the ideal candidate should have a minimum of 20 years of experience in the Pharmaceutical/ Biopharmaceutical industries. In all three of these roles, experience with Cancer products in the Biotechnology area constitutes a decided plus.

Our client is a Biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of novel small molecule drugs used principally to treat liver diseases and metabolic diseases linked to pathways in the liver. Their current pipeline includes three product candidates in clinical trials intended for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes, Hepatitis B and Primary Liver Cancer.

In order to augment the strategic thinking and positioning as it aggressively progresses toward commercialization, the company is seeking to add a seasoned business executive to the Board. With this recruitment effort, the company is in search of an individual with prior achievement in building and transitioning a Biotechnology company from “technology” to products”. The addition of such commercial accomplishment is expected to create leverage in terms of customer knowledge and industry contacts as well as strategic decision making.

In terms of professional background, we are seeking an individual with a minimum of 20 years of experience in the Pharmaceutical/Biopharmaceutical industries. Between these two sectors, the emphasis will clearly be on Biotechnology. It is expected that such an individual will have developed a distinguished career in General Management and, as a consequence, bring valuable knowledge and contacts. Significant exposure to drugs for metabolic disorders is highly appealing in the role. In terms of education, the only fundamental requirement is an undergraduate degree; the preference is for an MBA.

We are seeking a COO who would provide integrated and disciplined management for this decentralized global organization. The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of fifteen years experience, at least half of which should have come within a managerial context. General Management, Project Management/Leadership or Clinical Development experience within the context of Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology companies represents preferred industry experience. Managing components of research-based not-for-profit organizations would represent suitable experience from non-commercial sectors.

Our Client is an early stage drug discovery venture that is focused in the area of chemical genomics, whose business objective is to harness this technology to rapidly develop and discover novel therapeutics, while also improving the drug discovery and development process. For this CEO role, we are seeking to recruit an individual with demonstrated accomplishments in the commercial side of Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology. At a fundamental level, this individual is expected to lead the effort to create a strategy that will maximize the value of the company’s technology and intellectual property. This individual’s charter will be to take a lead/assist in the creation of collaborations with global Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical companies emphasizing drug discovery. The highest priority for this individual involves the successful generation and implementation of an appropriate financing strategy through to a liquidation event, either in the form of an IPO or an acquisition.
